Our Approach to Christian Counseling in Greenwood, IN
Our Christian therapists welcome people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and walks of life. We understand that faith can be a source of strength, but at times, it may also bring doubt or carry past hurt.
Wherever you are on your journey, we’ll meet you with compassion, not judgment. Our goal is to support your healing and help you find peace in your life and relationships.
Some of the approaches we use include:
Integrative Therapy with Faith Exploration
We’ll work together to combine evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a safe space to explore your spiritual questions, concerns, and wounds. Our therapists will help you reflect on how your faith connects with your mental health and relationships. Whether you’re experiencing doubt, facing a spiritual crisis, or seeking to strengthen your relationship with God, we’ll support you in discovering your own path to hope and healing.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Biblical Perspective
By using proven CBT techniques to address negative thought patterns and behaviors—while integrating Bible principles when you find them helpful—you can explore your thoughts about God, yourself, and the circumstances that have affected your mental health in a safe, supportive space. With a combination of psychological tools and spiritual resources, you can find meaning and purpose in your healing journey.
Trauma-Informed Care with Spiritual Safety
We understand that trauma, spiritual trauma, and religious hurt can deeply affect your mental health. Our therapists are trained in trauma and its impact on the nervous system. By integrating this knowledge with spiritual resources, we support you in understanding and healing from past wounds, whether psychological or spiritual.
Attachment-Based Therapy with Divine Connection
Early attachment to our caregivers shapes both our emotional well-being and our relationship with God. This approach helps you explore how your attachment style influences your ability to trust, connect with others, and experience God’s love. It can be especially helpful for those who feel distant from God or others, as it fosters secure connections—both human and divine—that support healing and spiritual growth.
Narrative Therapy with Sacred Story Integration
Storytelling helps you find meaning by re-authoring your life story and separating your identity from your struggles. It invites you to explore how your story connects with God’s larger narrative of hope and redemption, guiding you to reflect on who you want to be and how God sees you, so you can discover your unique purpose and calling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between traditional counseling and Christian counseling?
Our therapists hold a master’s degree from an accredited university. Additionally, we are licensed mental health counselors in the state of Indiana and are therefore subject to licensing board ethics, rules, and regulations. This distinction is important when considering the difference between traditional mental health counseling and Biblical counseling.
Typically, biblical counselors are trained and certified by reputable organizations, but do not usually have a master’s degree in a mental health or psychology-related field. Biblical counselors use Scripture, spiritual guidance, and help identify what changes people need to make to live life according to biblical principles. The focus of biblical counseling tends to be more experiential in approach.
Traditional counseling uses evidence-based techniques and education about the brain and biology to provide people with a deeper understanding of how healing and transformation happen.
At Peace Family Counseling, we strive to integrate both approaches while allowing our clients personal autonomy and growth in both healing and spiritual development. Our therapists are highly trained in psychology, and each of us has a deep understanding of Scripture and biblical principles. We believe there is great value in helping people find healing through the lens of both psychology and biblical principles.
Do I have to be a Christian to receive counseling here?
No—we stand with people no matter where they are on their spiritual journey, especially if you’re recovering from religious hurt or questioning beliefs from your past.
We’re here to help you navigate these faith-related challenges and rebuild your beliefs in a way that supports your healing.
Will you try to convert me or push religious beliefs?
Not at all. You’re fully in charge. During the early phase of therapy, we’ll talk with you about whether—and how much—you’d like faith to be integrated into your sessions. We always ask for permission before including Scripture, spiritual practices, or prayer.
We understand everyone’s needs are different. While some find faith integration helpful in their healing, others do not. We’ll always respect where you are on your journey, and we will never impose our own beliefs.
How do you integrate faith and therapy?
We never make assumptions—we ask. We’ll talk with you about your faith and how you’d like to incorporate it into your therapy process. When requested, we may include Scripture, prayer, or spiritual direction activities in your sessions.
Do you use secular therapy techniques?
Yes. While some of our therapists attended Christian colleges, most of us studied at secular universities. This gave us a comprehensive understanding of secular interventions, which we thoughtfully view through a Christian lens. These techniques are supported by research, and we believe it is both wise and beneficial to use them in helping people find hope and healing.
